Ask a few developers and you may get very different prices for what seems like the same thing. The difference usually isn’t in the price itself, but in what it includes.
What drives the price
- Number of pages - a one-page site or ten separate pages.
- Copy - whether you write it yourself or the developer does.
- Features - bookings, an online shop, several languages, integrations.
- Design - an adapted template or something made just for you.
Costs that are easy to forget
Besides the website itself, you’ll usually need a domain and hosting, which are paid yearly. Some developers also charge a monthly maintenance fee. That’s not bad, but it’s worth knowing upfront to avoid surprises.
How not to overpay
- Ask for a fixed price and a clear list of what’s included.
- Ask who will own the website and the domain - it should be you.
- Make sure you can change texts and photos yourself.
- Ask how much changes after launch will cost.
More expensive isn’t always better
A small or medium business usually doesn’t need a complex system. It needs a fast, clear website that looks good on phones and makes people get in touch. Paying several times more only makes sense when you need specific features.
